The mind is a mighty powerhouse, this dynamic instrument helps us interact, experience, perceive, reflect and contemplate on the world. The mind is made up of inert matter. However, it appears to be a conscious entity because of its unique capacity to reflect Consciousness.
A mind focussed on the material world – things, beings and situations is oblivious to the underlying Consciousness – cannot be seen by the senses, felt by the mind nor known by the intellect. Yet Consciousness vividly expresses itself in a purer dynamic and brilliant mind. Conversely, a mind filled with anger, greed and passion generates misery, and bondage. The same mind, if understood, befriended, and filled with divine thoughts, becomes an instrument to help attain the goal of human birth – the Infinite.
We should understand the mind’s workings, to make it effective, confident and productive. The thoughts we emphasise, multiply to make our world. We alone are its architects. Thus, if we send constructive attitudes and auspicious thoughts to the mind with firm intent and convictions, the day’s direction becomes easier, upbeat and positive. Before sleeping, observe the mind and mull over the day’s events. Detect mistakes; acknowledge undesirable attitudes; identify negative actions. Ask the Lord’s forgiveness from wrong thoughts and actions. Firmly state, ‘No more of this!’
Every night, recall the day’s joyful experiences and awake with positive intentions. Right intentions make actions worshipful, and the cause of bondage becomes the means of Liberation. Actions performed with attention, dedication and love, offered with gratitude to the Lord, exhaust existing negativities bringing auspiciousness into life. We then recognise the absolute Truth, as our very own Self!
