Becoming the Best Version of Ourselves

30 Apr 2025

The mind is always thinking and comparing itself with others. It entertains a flow of questions – how much should we earn to compete and so on. Our success is graded by our mental imaginations. To become the best version of ourselves, we need to stop wasting time and energy in comparisons with others and invest in spending time to recognize ourselves.

First, we should be comfortable with who we are; know ourselves, understand our duties towards the family, our profession and society. Perform all actions, at any given time, with awareness, presence of mind, love and dedication. The best way is to perform every action with devotion to the Lord of the Universe, who has given us everything and is watching over us every minute. Offer to Him with gratitude, all our abilities and talents – known and unknown.

In the Bhagavad Gita Lord Krishna refers to this as – Karma Yoga. When we work with this attitude even the smallest, most mundane or insignificant action, becomes meaningful. For instance, even the simple act of the disposal of a piece of plastic from the road, develops within us not only a sense of well-being, but also a certain level of efficiency and fulfilment. This reflects in all our actions. Our greatest potential manifests, when just out of love, we employ an approach life with a mind, devoid of anxieties, worries or comparisons. Its expression is a great sense of fulfilment. Such a calm and peaceful mind then discovers its greater Self, a greater purpose and a greater beauty.

It recognizes that Awareness, because of which we are aware of all. Such a person becomes a seeker of the truth about oneself, the world and God; in time, discovers that which is the Truth, that which is most Auspicious and that which is most Beautiful – Satyam, Shivam, Sundaram!
