Study Groups constitute the heart of our Mission. The ideas, when discussed with others, not only become deeply rooted in you…they also inspire those who listen to you…

Study Groups : Study, Reflect, Evolve

Chinmaya Mission Study Groups are small (5-15 people), regular gatherings for individuals dedicated to the study and discussion of Vedantic texts. The seekers meet weekly for about ninety minutes at a time and location convenient to the members.

At the conclusion of the 17th Jnana Yajna in Delhi in March 1956, Swami Chinmayananda emphasized the importance of structured and consistent learning. Inspired by Gurudev’s talks and yajnas, thousands of seekers eager to continue their scriptural studies were organized into local Study Groups, meeting weekly to explore Vedantic scriptures in a systematic and methodical way.

Through discussions, reflections, and shared experiences, seekers deepen their understanding and connect with like-minded individuals.

As illustrated with Gurudev’s simple analogy - a cup of coffee remains bitter until sugar is stirred; likewise, knowledge needs reflection to truly impact us. Regular participation encourages reflection, strengthens faith, and brings spiritual practice into daily life.

Devi Group concept

Missing {alternativeText}!!!

Devi Groups are study groups exclusively for women. The first Devi Group, or Chinmaya Study Group exclusively for women, was inaugurated in November 1958, at Chennai, India, with Swami Chinmayananda's blessings:

‘Salutations to Mothers! I need not mention how happy I am that a Devi section of Chinmaya Mission is being inaugurated on this sacred day. Indeed, women have been, and even today are, the real custodians of our country's spiritual culture. The fall of our cultural standard is a true measure of the growing ignorance in the mothers of our society.’
