Spiritual Camps: Immersive Retreats

Chinmaya Mission devotees often choose to take a solitary retreat and stay at the ashrams. The centers worldwide host spiritual camps and intensive residential courses not only for individuals, but also for families, and children.

The spiritual camps offer an opportunity to participants, whether individuals or entire families, to take a break from routine. Staying in a sacred space, they immerse in Vedantic learning, devotion, and culture.

Through guided learning and introspection, they experience a transformative journey together, strengthening their spiritual connection and values.

Swami Chinmayananda’s bold vision was to bring Vedanta into everyday life for everybody.

Though people living family life seem to be exiled from the sequestered atmosphere of Vedantic study in an Ashram, he conceived of Vedanta camps as a way to give a boost through small doses of intense live-in sadhana.

The first National Camp was held in Mumbai from April 15 to May 5, 1972. It enabled seekers from various parts of the country to enrol as delegates and live a twenty-four-hour day engrossed in spirituality for a period of two weeks

The first Chinmaya International Spiritual Camp was also held in Mumbai in 1984.

Delegates at these camps come to experience the Chinmaya Mission family spirit “living as a family, bound to each other in love and respect”and gain inspiration to maintain their practice back at home.

Camp Programme

Structured sadhana for rebooting the mind

A typical camp starts with an early morning session on guided meditation followed by classes on Vedantic texts.

Throughout the day, members are kept absorbed in spiritually oriented activities: group discussions, satsangs, karma yoga and bhajans, as well as cultural programmes. In short, for one week or more, people hear, talk, and live Vedanta!
