Swami Swaroopananda
Swami Swaroopananda, now Global Head of Chinmaya Mission, grew up in Mumbai, in a family founded on strong and universal spiritual values. He met Swami Chinmayananda in Hong Kong, while still a student, and, recognising his greatness and Vedanta as the goal of his search, he quickly became actively involved in the youth wing of Chinmaya Mission.
In 1983, Swamiji undertook the residential Vedanta Course at Mission Headquarters in Mumbai and was deployed to teach in the Far East. In addition to his mastery of the teachings, Swamiji is a lover of nature and a talented photographer. Swamiji has a special rapport with young people and has guided many to live dharma while relishing the beauty of life.
Swami Swaroopananda’s teaching blends authenticity with accessibility; theory with self- practice and logic with heart. He is an innovator and early adopter of technology harnessing its potential to bring Vedanta to even wider audiences.

Swami Swaroopananda grew up in a lively creative family in Mumbai, and was headed for a future in business and economics. In addition to his Hindu heritage, Swamiji had a special love for the Sikh gurus and their holy writings. It was the sheer logic of the Holy Geeta commentary of Swami Chinmayananda that captured his heart and mind and led him to join the Chinmaya Mission Youth group (CHYK).
Moved by an irresistable attraction to the universal wisdom of Vedanta and Swami Chinmayananda's innovative, loving vision for taking the Gita and the Upanishads to a wider audience, Swamiji joined the Brahmachari course in Mumbai with Swami Tejomayananda as his acharya.
In 1992, Swamiji was in initiated into Sannyas by Gurudev and given the name Swami Swaroopananda. Swamiji's missionary work also spread to Africa and Australia.
In 1995, Swamiji was posted as Far East Regional Head with Australia as his base. From there he inspired fledgling centres into Ashrams with flourishing classes across the entire South East Asian region. Swamiji focused on the entire family and initiated annual family camps.
