Sandeepany Himachal

Gateway to the Himalayas

Swami Chinmayananda established Sandeepany Himalayas at Sidhbari, in the serene foothills of the Dhauladhar ranges, as a tribute to his Guru, Swami Tapovan Maharaj, and to the sacred Himalayas.

Construction of Sandeepany Himachal began in 1979 on a barren, wind-swept hill. Swami Chinmayananda, after meditating for a long time in that weather-beaten spot, offered an amazing solution. A 25-foot Hanuman idol on a 7-foot pedestal was installed, the fierce winds subsided, and ashram development resumed.

Home to the towering Hanuman Murti, a Hindi Vedanta course, the Shri Ram Temple, the Ashram stands as a gesture of gratitude to the devout and hardworking mountain communities who have long supported generations of wandering saints.

Experience

A sanctified place

Fondly called as ‘Sidhbari’, Sandeepany Himalachal, is renowned for its stunning Himalayan backdrop and holds a special place in the hearts of Chinmaya Mission devotees. Named after the many siddhas who have passed through the region, Sidhbari is steeped in spiritual history. Nearby is the ancient Kapil Muni Ashram, with its grove of sacred murtis and kund.

To many, Sidhbari is simply Swami Chinmayananda’s ‘home.’ After his Mahasamadhi in 1993, the ashram became the site of his sacred samadhi shrine, making it a revered pilgrimage destination for devotees.

Regular Spiritual camps, held in various languages offer enriching retreats for families and seekers, featuring Vedanta lectures, meditation, and discussions in a serene natural setting. Sidhbari also hosts youth camps where young people can breathe in the fresh mountain air and connect with nature in a spiritually enriching environment.

Retreat and refresh

A Mountain Sanctuary

At Sandeepany Himachal, students enrolled in Chinmaya Mission’s two-year Hindi Vedanta course immerse themselves in deep study and reflection, guided by the serene and uplifting energy of the Himalayan environment, away from the distractions of city life.

For visiting campers, the ashram offers a rejuvenating spiritual retreat, with opportunities for satsangs, meditation, cultural activities, and tranquil walks through nearby fields and forests.

A visit to the nearby headquarters of C.O.R.D. (Chinmaya Organisation for Rural Development) is highly recommended. Here, the spirit of seva envisioned by Swami Chinmayananda comes alive, as dedicated teams work tirelessly in surrounding villages to promote empowerment, education, and healthcare.
