Former Global Head of Chinmaya Mission

Swami Tejomayananda, former global head of the Chinmaya Mission, is based in Mumbai where he teaches regularly on a broad range of Vedantic texts. Described by Swami Chinmayananda as an “exquisite teacher”, he is a master at demonstrating age-old ‘valid means of enquiry’ to communicate the profound truth expounded in Advaita Vedanta in simple direct language. Swamiji has trained several batches of students who now teach in centres around the world.

Swamiji is a natural poet, whose musical compositions flow effortlessly from a deep reservoir of devotion and spiritual knowledge. Amongst many creative projects, it was his vision that gave birth to Chinmaya Nada Bindu, the music arm of Chinmaya Vishwa Vidyapeeth tertiary institution.

As a 19 year old college student, Swami Tejomayananda was greatly fascinated by the unique rapport between the Guru and shishya. Almost as though to enable him to experience this first hand, his life took a dramatic turn. In October 1969, a month before he received his postgraduate degree, he heard Swami Chinmayananda’s discourses on the Bhagavad-gita Chapter 3.

Guru ji currently resides at Chinmaya Mission’s headquarters, Sandeepany Sadhanalaya, in Mumbai where he teaches regularly on a broad range of Vedantic texts. Described by Swami Chinmayananda as an “exquisite teacher”.

Chinmaya Vibhooti Vision Centre, located in Kolwan Village Maharashtra, was conceived by Guruji as a source of spiritual and creative inspiration. It illustrates the phenomenal vision of Swami Chinmayananda through magnificent installations, temples and educational and contemplative spaces.

Chinmaya Vishwa Vidyapeeth, established under Swami Tejomayananda’s guidance in 2016 is a visionary university that integrates contemporary academic and professional knowledge with Indian Knowledge systems.

Chinmaya Swaranjali, established in 2003 with the encouragement of Swami Tejomayananda is a musical movement started as a tribute to Swami Chinmayananda’s legendary love of music and dedicated to exploring Indian devotional music. Guruji himself is a singer and musician and has composed many devotional songs.

Publication Legacy

Swami Tejomayananda, is a prolific writere and commentator . In addition to commentaries on principal Vedantic texts, such as Drk Drshya Viveka, Upadesha Sara and Panchadasi, he has authored numerous original explanatory philosophical writings.
